As a fourth grade teacher, I find it very difficult to help my students master long number long division and fractions because of the limited amount of time that we have to spend on those lessons before moving on to a new chapter with a new concept and not really being able to review the previous chapters.

I try to get my students into AM Live each week but the struggle to do so is real! I need to make a better effort to have students working in there at least 3 days a week to really see growth.

We do not currently use Accelerated Math. Previously, we used it and loved it! I feel that math talks are just as important as reading conferences.

Math is like a stepping stone of concept building. Basic skills have to be mastered in order to continue with the curriculum. We need to model the concepts. MOST OF ALL, we need to engage our students in applying the concepts.

If you think about it, this information makes sense. Math is cumulative. Certain years are benchmark years where all previous skills really need to come together. Students who can pull those strands together and make new math understandings will also do well in other areas.

We could use more from STAR Math reports than we currently do. I think updated training that include the predictors would be eye opening for many teachers.

As a 3rd grade teacher, I recognize the importance of filling in gaps, which research shows those gaps grow if not filled in by 3rd grade. I know that this is a foundational year from which future years will be build. I love when my students come back to share their math scores in the years after leaving 3rd grade. I appreciate the data AM provides and the practice that I can easily tie in with hands-on learning.
