Head Start
Head Start is designed to promote school readiness for children from low-income families. There are more than one million children enrolled in Head Start, many of whom are served in Head Start programs provided by school districts.
A key component of these programs is screening and assessment. An initial screening must occur within 45 days of when the child first attends the program. Ongoing assessment must align with the Early Learning Outcomes Framework (ELOF) which describes the skills, behaviors, and knowledge that Head Start programs must foster in all children and covers five central domains: Approaches to Learning, Social and Emotional Development, Language and Literacy, Cognition, and Perceptual, Motor, and Physical Development.
Renaissance offers a set of research-based, user-friendly preschool assessments for monitoring the growth and development of young children, complemented by a set of semi-structured observations to give a multi-dimensional assessment across the domains.
